Job Summary
The Critical Care Registered Nurse (ICU RN) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill and unstable patients experiencing serious medical conditions, including heart attacks, strokes, shock, severe trauma, and respiratory distress. The nurse assesses patient conditions, develops and implements individualized care plans, monitors vital signs, administers treatments, and collaborates with the critical care team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities

Assess patients’ conditions and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.

Monitor and document vital signs, clinical status, and responses to treatment.

Administer intravenous fluids, medications, and other prescribed treatments.

Provide wound care and advanced life support as needed.

Assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Operate and monitor ventilators, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), patient monitors, and other critical care equipment.

Adjust ventilator settings within authorized scope, protocols, and provider orders.

Perform suctioning and other necessary respiratory care interventions.

Recognize and respond promptly to emergencies and life-threatening situations in accordance with established nursing standards and protocols.

Collaborate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary critical care team.

Advocate for patients and provide education, guidance, and emotional support to patients and their families.

Provide care to preoperative and postoperative patients when required.

Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with facility policies and patient safety standards.
Required Qualifications

Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license or a valid multistate RN license with privileges to practice in Alabama.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Critical care nursing experience and the ability to care for critically ill patients.
